Dr. Paganelli

Allison Paganelli, Psy.D., ABPP was born and raised in Alabama, attended graduate school in Georgia and received pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral training in Colorado and Connecticut. Dr. Paganelli earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Auburn University in Alabama in 1997. She spent the following year working as a paraprofessional at a community mental health 
center in Opelika, Alabama before beginning graduate studies at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM).  Dr. Paganelli completed her Master’s of Science degree in Psychology from AUM in 2001 and subsequently extended her graduate studies at the Georgia School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University/Atlanta Campus.  Dr. Paganelli achieved a Master’s of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology in 2003.  She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2006, following a pre-doctoral internship at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan in Denver, Colorado (an American Psychological Association approved internship site at an inpatient psychiatric hospital).  Dr. Paganelli completed a year of post-doctoral training (fall of 2006 through the fall of 2007) at Yale University and the West Haven Veteran’s Administration in Connecticut and has been licensed as a psychologist since 2008.  Dr. Paganelli has been employed exclusively in forensic psychology since September of 2007. She was first employed for nearly five years at Connecticut Valley Hospital in the Whiting Forensic Division, which is the maximum security forensic hospital for the state of Connecticut.  During that portion of her career, Dr. Paganelli was employed as a Unit Psychologist, with job duties including court evaluations (competency to stand trial, civil commitment evaluations for post- Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity acquittees), cognitive and personality assessments, psychosexual risk assessments, expert testimony in on campus hearings and judicial courts, individual and group psychological treatments for those with severe and persistent mental illness, participation in the Dialectical Behavior Therapy consultation and treatment group, training of staff members through hospital-provided in-services on suicide prevention and trauma-based treatment, and supervision of bachelor’s level and master’s level students.  While living in Connecticut (specifically fall of 2009 through spring of 2012), Dr. Paganelli served as an Adjunct Faculty member at Central Connecticut State University, teaching Abnormal Psychology to undergraduate students.  In the summer of 2012, Dr. Paganelli moved from Connecticut to the Atlanta, Georgia and was 
employed as an inpatient Forensic Psychologist on one of the medium security forensic units at Georgia Regional Hospital/Atlanta (GRHA) in Decatur, Georgia. Dr. Paganelli’s job duties at GRHA included competency to stand trial evaluations, criminal responsibility evaluations, risk assessments, cognitive and personality assessments, membership on a multi-disciplinary team, individual and group treatments for persons with severe and persistent mental illness, and secondary supervision of and didactic trainings for pre-doctoral psychology interns.  Dr. Paganelli has also provided expert testimony in several Atlanta Superior Courts as well as probate court.  While living in both Connecticut and Georgia, Dr. Paganelli has given many presentations to outside agencies and groups, including a talk as part of a community series on “True Crime” in Essex, Connecticut and at the John Marshall School of Law Honor Students’ Program on court evaluations.   

In January 2015, Dr. Paganelli joined  Kevin J. Richards, Ph.D., P.C. and Jamie M. Dickson, Psy.D., LLC at the Forensic Specialty Group.
Dr. Paganelli is Board Certified in Forensic Psychology by the American Board of Forensic Psychology.  She is only one of four psychologists in Georgia who hold this certification. Dr. Paganelli is licensed to practice psychology in Georgia. She specializes in Forensic Assessment of adults though Dr. Paganelli is also available to perform evaluations of juveniles.  She has a particular interest in evaluation of individuals with severe and persistent mental disorders.  

Dr. Paganelli is a specialist of the American Board of Forensic Psychology.  She is member of the American Academy of Forensic Psychology, American Psychological Association and American Psychology-Law Society.
